Political Goals
Some of the things that Kirkland would like to work on if elected to Rincon City Council are sidewalks, infrastructure, and attracting new businesses.
“I want to expand on the walkability, because I really want to continue to put sidewalks out. That's definitely one of them,” Kirkland said. “Another one is to continue to grow infrastructure -- water, drainage, roads -- all those things definitely to be continued.”
Kirkland wants to attract new types of businesses to the city. “I want to bring in some tech businesses, healthcare or local entrepreneurs to Rincon.”
Community Involvement
As for volunteering to help the community, Kirkland said,
“I definitely support Habitat for Humanity. That group of people is always out trying to build affordable housing in Effingham County. I support them wholeheartedly.
“The United Way is another one that we support and help with whatever they might need,” Kirkland added. “I volunteer with the school system as well, specifically the Effingham County band program, I've always been a music guy, so I love to volunteer with them as well.”
The Kirklands have been married for 17 years and have two daughters who attend Effingham College & Career Academy.
